Success With God: Obedience Is The Key Piece

This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success (Joshua 1:8 NASB).

Some talk much about speaking God’s Word and claiming His promises.  This is well and good, but only part of the process.  We are to keep His Word on our lips, but we miss “be careful to do” what is written in the Bible.  A careful reading of the verse will reveal that only after obedience will the Lord make us successful (“then you will make your way prosperous and then you will have success”).  We are to mediate on God’s Word (part of which is speaking the Word) but the purpose is so we can obey what is written.  The process must move from the head to the heart.  We must master the Word of God, but we must allow the Word of God to master us. The evidence that this is happening is in our obedience.  Then we will have God’s type of prosperity and success.

Pray with me.  Lord, help me not just to be a hearer of Your Word, but a doer of it also.  Give me Your type of prosperity and success.
